Hyperpolarizability effects in a Sr optical lattice clock.

چکیده
We report the observation of a higher-order frequency shift due to the trapping field in a (87)Sr optical lattice clock. We show that, at the magic wavelength of the lattice, where the first-order term cancels, the higher-order shift will not constitute a limitation to the fractional accuracy of the clock at a level of 10(-18). This result is achieved by operating the clock at very high trapping intensity up to 400 kW/cm(2) and by a specific study of the effect of the two two-photon transitions near the magic wavelength.

Lattice-induced frequency shifts in Sr optical lattice clocks at the 10(-17) level.
We present a comprehensive study of the frequency shifts associated with the lattice potential in a Sr lattice clock by comparing two such clocks with a frequency stability reaching 5×10(-17) after a 1 h integration time. We put the first experimental upper bound on the multipolar M1 and E2 interactions, significantly smaller than the recently predicted theoretical upper limit, and give a 30-fo...
متن کاملOptical lattice polarization effects on hyperpolarizability of atomic clock transitions.
The light-induced frequency shift due to hyperpolarizability (i.e., terms of second-order in intensity) is studied for a forbidden optical transition, J = 0 --> J = 0. A simple universal dependence on the field ellipticity is obtained. This result allows minimization of the second-order light shift with respect to the field polarization for optical lattices operating at a magic wavelength (at w...
متن کاملOptical lattice induced light shifts in an yb atomic clock.
We present an experimental study of the lattice-induced light shifts on the (1)S(0) --> (3)P(0) optical clock transition (nu(clock) approximately 518 THz) in neutral ytterbium. The "magic" frequency nu(magic) for the 174Yb isotope was determined to be 394 799 475(35) MHz, which leads to a first order light shift uncertainty of 0.38 Hz. We also investigated the hyperpolarizability shifts due to ...
متن کاملImproved Frequency Measurement of a One-Dimensional Optical Lattice Clock with a Spin-Polarized Fermionic Sr Isotope
We demonstrate a one-dimensional optical lattice clock with a spin-polarized fermionic isotope designed to realize a collision-shift-free atomic clock with neutral atom ensembles. To reduce systematic uncertainties, we developed both Zeeman shift and vector light-shift cancellation techniques. By introducing both an H-maser and a Global Positioning System (GPS) carrier phase link, the absolute ...
متن کاملSystematic study of the 87 Sr clock transition in an optical lattice Andrew
With ultracold Sr confined in a magic wavelength optical lattice, we present the most precise study (2.8 Hz statistical uncertainty) to-date of the 1S0 3P0 optical clock transition with a detailed analysis of systematic shifts (20 Hz uncertainty) in the absolute frequency measurement of 429 228 004 229 867 Hz. The high resolution permits an investigation of the optical lattice motional sideband...
